Ceremonial grade cacao is often used for heart-opening ceremonials, as consuming pure cacao packed with a high concentration of health-restoring and consciousness-enhancing compounds, such as theobromine, serotonin, proanthocyanin, anandamide, methylxanthines, tryptophan, phenylethylamine, and many others generate what people describe as a heart-opening experience.

Psilocybin mushrooms and cacao have been used for centuries in the Mayan culture. They referred to psilocybin mushrooms as teonanacátl (flesh of the gods).
